treatment of psoriasis through homeopathy

a case of psoriasis treated by homeopathy

A 39-year-old woman visited my clinic on 11th August 2024 with a long-standing skin complaint. She is a mother of two and began experiencing symptoms about five years ago, shortly after the birth of her second child. The eruptions were patchy, raised, red, and flaky, primarily affecting her hands (especially near the elbows) and face. The itching was intense, worsening at night and on sun exposure.

She has sensitive skin, with occasional episodes of urticaria or skin hives, particularly triggered by sunlight. There was also patchy hair loss on the left side of her scalp and complete loss of the left eyebrow. A family history of autoimmune diseases was noted—her father has vitiligo.

She is currently on Thyronorm 50 mcg for hypothyroidism, which was diagnosed post-delivery. The initial signs of her skin issue began with mild irritation and gradually progressed to well-defined, red, flaky patches with persistent itching.

She had previously consulted a dermatologist and was diagnosed with psoriasis. Steroids and topical applications were prescribed, which gave temporary relief, but the symptoms recurred immediately upon stopping the medications. She later tried Ayurvedic treatment for a few months before seeking homeopathic care.

On further evaluation, it became evident that stress played a significant role in her condition. The physical, emotional, and hormonal changes following her second delivery, combined with the stress of balancing motherhood and a career, left her feeling emotionally drained, pessimistic about her appearance, and prone to mood swings and sleep disturbances.

In my clinical practice, I place a high emphasis on understanding and addressing stress as a core contributor in autoimmune and lifestyle-related disorders.

A detailed case history was taken, including her childhood background, physical constitution, mental state, food cravings and aversions, menstrual history, and personality traits. Based on this thorough analysis, the following homeopathic treatment was initiated:

  • Pulsatilla 1M, two doses, administered fortnightly
  • Arsenicum Iodatum 30, morning and night – for its anti-inflammatory properties
  • Kali Sulph 6X, 2 tablets twice a day – to reduce scaling and itching

After 1 month, the eruptions had reduced in thickness, though itching persisted, especially in the evening and night. Her mood and sleep were still disturbed with intermittent anxiety. At this stage, I continued the above medicines and added a Bach flower remedy combination to support her emotional health:

  • White Chestnut, Mimulus, Elm, Hornbeam, Mustard, and Sweet Chestnut

By the second month, there was notable improvement in her skin and a marked uplift in mood and confidence. She no longer experienced anxiety, and her sleep had improved. However, the skin remained slightly reddish and reactive with residual itching.

To address the skin hypersensitivity, I prescribed:

  • Bacillinum 1M, single dose
  • Cina 30, two times a day
  • Continued Kali Sulph 6X and Bach flower remedy combination

Following this, her skin condition, mood, and itching showed significant improvement. She was later placed on placebo for a few months with no recurrence, even with sun exposure. After 8 months of treatment, I concluded the case with a preventive dose of Thuja 10M and discontinued all medicines.

Note: This treatment protocol was carefully selected based on the patient’s individual physical, mental, and emotional constitution. For similar complaints, we recommend you consult a qualified homeopath for personalized guidance.
