Narrative Case Report: A 57-Year-Old Woman with Chronic Acidity Managed by Homeopathy

A 57-year-old woman presented to our clinic with a longstanding complaint of bloating in the upper abdomen, often accompanied by belching after meals, which gave her temporary relief. She also reported diffuse pain throughout her body. Her symptoms worsened after consuming sour or fried foods, as well as green gram. She had been experiencing digestive disturbances for about six years, which became more pronounced after menopause.

Her medical history included hypothyroidism for 14 years, for which she was on allopathic medication. She also suffered from allergic rhinitis and had known sensitivities to certain foods (especially green gram) and dust. Despite undergoing various treatments, including long-term use of Pantoprazole 5 mg daily and a course of Ayurvedic therapy, her relief was only partial and temporary.

The patient had a strong emotional background. A retired school teacher from a middle-class family, she had been academically bright but felt she never achieved her full potential. Her husband, serving in the army, was often away, leaving her to manage the household and raise two children on her own. She carried emotional scars from unpleasant experiences with her husband’s family, which seemed to have left a lasting impact on her mental and physical health.

On further inquiry, she also mentioned a persistent sensation of incomplete evacuation during bowel movements and swelling in her limbs. As treatment progressed, she began to notice the appearance of purple-colored veins on her thighs, and her complaints of body pain continued despite improvement in her gastric symptoms.

Based on the totality of symptoms and emotional constitution, I prescribed Carbo Vegetabilis weekly, along with Natrium Phosphoricum 6x twice daily and Iris Versicolor 200 at night for a month. She reported significant reduction in bloating and was able to reduce her reliance on Pantoprazole. The same prescription was repeated, and Bach Flower remedies were introduced — Red Chestnut, for her constant worry about her family, and Crab Apple, to help clear both emotional and physical discomfort.

With this, her gastric symptoms improved markedly. However, body pain remained a concern, and she began to notice visible veins on her thighs. At this point, I continued Carbo Vegetabilis 1M weekly and Iris versicolor 200, and added Hamamelis 30, targeting her vascular symptoms and pain. This brought down the discomfort significantly.

In the final phase of treatment, Carbo Vegetabilis 1M was increased to twice daily (4 pills per dose), and Natrium Phosphoricum 6x was continued. Over time, her digestive symptoms resolved fully, body pain subsided, and she no longer required Pantoprazole. She reported an overall sense of well-being, both physically and emotionally.

NOTE : These medicines are prescribed based on the individual symptoms presented by each patient. Since every case is unique, it is important to consult a qualified homeopathic professional for personalized health guidance.
